In  Motor  ships  the  auxiliary  boiler  feed  controller  is  usually  a  proportional  controller  since  the  variations  in  load  for  the  boiler  are  more  or  less  steady  with  small  variations.

However  in  steam ships  driven  by  powerful  turbines with  water tube  boilers,  the  feed  controller  is a proportional  plus  integral  controller  with feed  back  from  steam  flow, and  feed  back  from  feed  flow   entering  a  controller which  sets  the  level  control  command  to  suit  the  steam  demand.
