The  domestic  refrigerator

In  the  domestic  refrigeration  plant  ,  on  board  the  ship,  there  is  a  by-pass line  short  circuiting  the  condenser,  receiver  and  the  expansion  valves  and  connects  directly  to the  evaporator  coil with  a  valve  which  is  always  kept  closed.  With  the  compressor  working  the  gas  is  circulated  through  the  coils  through  this  line.  The  gas  being  hot  melts  the  ice  on  the  coils  and  defrosting  is  achieved.
