> A flame detector is a sensor designed to detect and respond to the presence of a flame or fire, allowing flame detection. Responses to a detected flame is sending signal to the boiler combustion control that the pilot flame is established and now its safe to inject fuel which will initiate the combustion space.

Flame eye also consistently monitor the flame presence, if the flame is failed for any reason, it triggers an immediate response to the boiler control to shut off the fuel supply and raise alarm in the boiler panel and in a remote location preferably in the ECR.

> Imagine the operation without flame sensor, The fuel may start injecting without actual fire which will cause spraying of fuel into the combustion space which will cause severe conditions.

> Pre-purging is done in a boiler to ventilate and remove combustible atmosphere which could have caused by a fuel leak into the combustion chamber while the boiler was off.

Note: I knew a very experienced third engineer who got hit by flames, due to flashback! yes always the flame eye pocket and the sight glass near it are the weak point if you have a flash back for the gas to rush out.
