An automatic dual purpose valve, commonly fitted in the vent lines of tankers. When in the closed position, the function of this valve is to relieve either pressure or vacuum in a tank. When in the open position it allows the passage of air or vapor into and out of the tank.

A globe type PV valve is fitted to a cargo tank to prevent over/under pressure, Which is a manually operated valve. while a liquid filled PV breaker is fitted on the IG system, again to prevent over/under pressurisation of a cargo tank when ever the limits are crossed its automatically acts to prevent any damage to the tank.
