A VP for one of Maersk's shipping interests sent us the attached pictures of the commercial fleet off Singapore - backed up due to the economy. The AIS shot is amazing. I thought you might be interested. I have included part of the note he sent below.....
I thought you might find these photos interesting. The global economy is so slow ship operators like Maersk don't need all the existing capacity. Ships are being anchored and crews going ashore in Singapore until there is some recovery. As you well know a ship doesn't just sit in a marine environment like a parked, shrink wrapped aircraft in Arizona desert storage. This is a last resort for shipping lines. The magnitude is staggering, there must be hundreds of ships. Can you imagine the challenges this causes a Captain of the Port?
